Indian Premiums Surge $30 To Record On Physical Demand, Supply Crunch

Today’s AM fix was USD 1,276.00, EUR 941.49 and GBP 766.50 per ounce. Friday’s AM fix was USD 1,285.75, EUR 947.15 and GBP 804.30 per ounce. Gold fell $17.20 or 1.34% Friday, closing at $$1,270.20/oz. Silver slipped $0.30 or 1.39% closing at $21.29. Platinum dropped $13.51 or 1% to $1,366.49/oz, while palladium rose $3.22 or 0.5% to $709.22/oz. Gold and silver had negative returns for the week at 3.08% and 1.80% respectively.

Gold is being supported as the U.S. government shutdown that continues with no end in sight and the deadline to raise the national debt ceiling looms, burnishing gold's safe haven appeal.

Gold and silver are higher in all currencies today. The rupee sharp falls continue and it fell the most in 20 years overnight and gold reached new record highs in the rupee.

Gold rose $6.10 or 0.44% yesterday, closing at $1,402.40/oz, above resistance at $1,400/oz. Silver rose another $0.32 or 1.3%, closing at $24.30, above resistance at $24/oz. Gold has broken above resistance between $1,400/oz and $1,407/oz this morning.
